What penalties apply if an employer fails to carry Workers’ Compensation insurance?
Employers who operate without required Workers’ Compensation insurance may face substantial civil penalties. The Department of Labor can assess fines for each uninsured employee and for every day the business operated without coverage. The employer may also be held directly responsible for paying all medical and wage benefits if a worker is injured during the uninsured period.
