What penalties apply for recordkeeping violations?

Employers who fail to maintain required payroll and time records may face penalties and additional scrutiny from Wage & Hour Enforcement. Missing or inaccurate records can make it harder to defend against wage claims, and the employer may be held responsible for any unpaid wages the records should have shown.
