What deductions are prohibited?

Employers may not deduct wages for items such as cash shortages, damaged equipment, customer walkouts, or uniform costs unless the employee gives written consent and the deduction is lawful. Unapproved deductions or deductions that violate minimum wage protections may be considered wage theft.
