What deductions are employers legally allowed to take from wages?
Employers may take only deductions required by law or deductions the employee has voluntarily and clearly agreed to in writing. Examples include taxes, court-ordered deductions, and approved employee benefit contributions. Any deduction must be lawful and must not reduce the employee’s pay below the minimum wage unless the law allows it.
