How should employers handle violations by employees or customers?

If someone smokes in a prohibited area, employers should politely remind them of the no-smoking rule and direct them outside. If the person refuses, the employer may remove the individual from the area or contact enforcement authorities. Employers must take reasonable steps to stop violations to stay in compliance.
