How do the guidelines apply to certified vs. non-certified providers?
Certified providers must follow the guidelines and receive the benefit of the presumption that their recommended treatment is reasonable. Non-certified providers can still treat injured workers, but their care does not receive this presumption. That means insurers may require preauthorization or may request Utilization Review more often when non-certified providers are involved.
