What is the difference between base rate and fringe benefits?

The base rate is the hourly wage paid directly to you. Fringe benefits may include health insurance, retirement contributions, or other benefits required by the prevailing wage schedule.

If fringe benefits are not provided separately, the employer may be required to pay the full amount as wages.
